What is the opposite of ‘bananas’ ?

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

Let’s see. This is not a trick question, but it is a concern which some Team Leaders should assess when building rapport and especially when mentoring new hires and promotable employees. What does going bananas mean?

The term bananas first appeared in the US in 1942 “The American Thesaurus of Slang: a complete reference book of colloquial speech in the definition for eccentric” with a meaning of: “Balmy, bats, bent, crazy . . .” In 1833 an American slang meaning of the term bent was to be interpreted as intoxicated with alcohol or drugs. So, this just a definition using slang to define other slang.

The Sky is Crying – Texas Flood

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

Today we celebrate rain and wind and convection and hurricanes.
Hurricane Harvey is causing way too much anxiety for the East Texas coast.

We are praying for the south Texas coast, especially Corpus Christi and all the surrounding cities.
We are praying for Kingsville and Brownsville, Texas, and Matamoros, Mexico, too.

Stevie Ray Vaughan said it best, “The sky is crying.”
But this weekend, we are having ourselves a genuine Texas Flood.

Thank you for praying for Houston, too.

GOD BLESS TEXAS!

Peace!

Hunker down!

Hands of time

I see these once tanned hands.
Lots of wrinkly skin around the knuckles.
This means — must have been ready to bend into a new shape at the clinch of a fist.

An ancient act of forgiveness

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

Many great stories have been told and written
which describe people of good moral character.

Some in the face of temptation
and others in the face of anger and death
are tested from the point of heartbreak  to the point of extinction.

If we as believers are called to be forgiving,
surely our actions will appear as defiant to some
because many of today’s “authoritarians”
do not understand the concept of forgiveness.

Can an argument over an interpretation be good cause to end a relationship?

Back ward mask 003 – lies and truth

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

How bad can it get when someone tells a lie?
That depends on how well versed we are in spotting the truth.

There is a ‘Spectrum of Truth’ that can be universally applied
to all that we think, do and say.

Once we have gone down that slimy, filthy road of lies,
the only way back is to come clean,
and then, of course, to stay clean.

The infinite line from the star light of truth to the abyss of treachery is here: Continue reading

Cat, speak catspeak!

A crazy young girl with brunette hair
long ago said she must be my mate.

She looked into her book of spells
and conjured a figure eight.

Working hard

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

The idea of ‘work’ can mean building a palace or
destroying people and places.

Work can be hard, easy, profitable, masterful, secretive and even stupid.

Work also wears a “suit phrase”
which gives ‘metaphor’ a run for its money. (see below)

The biggest question for OG workers is:
How in the world can clicking a mouse be considered work? Continue reading

Give

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

Faith turns out to be enough for a thinker.
Acts turn out to be much more for the doer.

Give a hand in need.

We demand justice when people are selfish,
but cry for mercy when we ourselves stumble?

Give sympathy.
