Growing up determined to make lines straighter,
Making promises and keeping them,
Seeing a better future for us all, you journeyed forward, yet again.
Lifting up our burden of righting wrongs,
Making your brothers and sisters smile,
Taking it on the chin from the system,
Hearing the call to walk by the light,
Being inspiration for your adopted and blood family,
Acting with model integrity for your city,
I wish I had met you. But you are still here,
because of your daughters who have taken your place.
They are all your goodness.
What a gift it is to be given someone to mentor!
What a treasure it is when they listen and act
just like you wanted them to.
How lucky we were to have had you walk our streets.
How fortunate we were that you believed in truth and love.
How sad we are today, now that you have journeyed forward, yet again.
