World Wide Window

“No man on this Earth is free from one vice.”
That the Collector told me.

“Your residual self-image is nice,
yet open eyes cannot see;
all man’s bad-tempered ways do not compare
to what is in the mirror.”

I stared at the glass, clearer
than ever, no vices did it declare.
“This is not temerity,”
I told this Prince. For that he said, “Think twice.
You, as most, are uneasy
to admit conceit. Pay the agreed price!”

. . . That’s the last time I sell my soul!
