Taller than the trees

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

Night falls
upon the forest
yet every tree
is still.

The stars
highlight this motionless
thrill.

And on your face
a moonbeam dances
in your
hair.

To steal
a kiss
and touch
more
than we dare.

The subtlety
of moaning drives
a hope
for our
tomorrow.

Could love
be
so worthwhile
that we could
take
and not
owe?

Heartbeats getting louder.
Passion makes us
pray
for love
that is
taller than the trees
before our hearts
give way.
