A rhythm that skips

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

I can hear your heart beating.
It has a rhythm that skips.

Lub dub-dub lub dub
I don’t believe that I am causing this. Am I?

You have a smile that surpasses my expectations
as an angel who only sees potential and brings me joy.

Lubdub-dub lub dub
Every wrinkle in your face does this effortlessly.

There is an eternal sky above us.
It has marked the day you arrived on Earth. See it?

With a sigh
your presence makes time fade away
every second you hold my hand.
