Invisible glow

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

The man is light and light shines all day.
He brings warmth and casts shadows
and seeks consolation from the hectic pace.

The man is light and light is passion.
He carries the weight of tomorrow
and hopes in what sunshine can bring.

Then light dims and fades and mellows.
He is the standard bearer of passing trends
and his strength lessens as his sunset approaches.

His light, in retrograde, is tired from work and burdens.
He longs to put the flame to rest
and show all the unknown paths he has learned of.

At last, twilight is woman subtle and lovely.
She approaches, causing colors to deepen and enrich the vista,
revealing where each shadow appeared by day.

Embers are passion, the feelings of the woman.
She nurtures and worries and consoles fevered brows
while expressing her inner beauty which no others can express.

Her darkness envelops his light.
She is the horizon of midnight that tumbles into daybreak,
and the woman shares with the man her invisible glow.
