Dreaming again

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

Comforting hugs – first memories of you.

Bad nannies departing, we mastered recall.

Mom declared, “Health profession for careers.”

You, people’s nurse. Me, Dad’s caregiver.

Really? Your lawyer after parents pass?

Constantly forgiven but your selfishness unforgettable.

That’s kryptonite God does not remove.

No rebuilding trust through time travel.

I pray in thanksgiving over splinters.

Beam in your eye blinding still?

Choices have consequences. Love has burdens.

Dreaming again how it could’ve been.

Comforting hugs – first memories of you.
