She is only the family cat

She is only the family cat
and will not take sides in a sibling spat.

At first the children with their chitchat
used words better left on a welcome mat.

As the parents dismissed the tit for tat,
in walked the in-laws and revved up combat.

Cat in bushes

Kitty stealthily pranced into the majorat,
not being a wordy acrobat.

In the yard she slunk under a winterfat
where she feasted on a day old gossat .

The castle door opened as both thin and fat
family members came lifting this, crying that.

‘I am ready,’ mewed the tired young pussycat.
The first to reach her was good Queen Pratte.

‘Here you are,’ said the aristocrat.
The two bounded back in no time flat.

It’s said quarreling demands a diplomat
to quiet every squawking brat.

No pet is an expert, so let’s not jest at
giving powers to a creature that seeks a soft pat.

Remember, she is only the family cat,
and will not take sides in a sibling spat.
