Silver Road

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

We opened our hearts
 as the shaman spoke

Telling us the future where
strange creatures walk the Earth
right into our town and our lives.

Their blue eyes
mesmerizing

Their six legs shining from another world
Causing us to cry

It was the unknown
that throttled us.

When they arrived
it was a celebration

A prophesy foretold
New things to learn and to teach

What could we give them
for their glory?

They marched up the silver road
to take away our treasures.
None of the gold we gave
satisfied their lust.
They took our daughters and wives
and took away our God
who had told us they would come.

We opened our eyes
as they controlled us.

Ordering our children
as their servants
and using our rivals against us.

Their blonde hair
shimmering

Some loved while others owned us
causing us to cry

It was the unknown
that throttled us.

When they left
we were a new nation

A prophesy so bold
A return to the old ways out of our reach

What could we give them
for their glory?

They marched up the silver road
to take away our treasures.
None of the gold we gave
satisfied their lust.
They took our daughters and wives
and took away our God
who had told us they would come.

They marched up the silver road
They marched up the silver road
