Twenty nine

There’s something magic about this year
as planets align in the sky.
Feel it in the breeze each and every warm night.
Who can really say why?

The story is told of a lady fair
and a real prince of a guy
would celebrate every time they kissed.
Now I’ll tell you why.

There were ogres and dragons and tempests and yet,
the whole world could upend.
No greater was love that the two of them had
for two hearts to defend.

Along came the fires and earthquakes and such,
disaster striking with awe.
They even had battled the greatest of fights
with each mother-in-law.

Amidst all the rocky roads that they had walked,
one royal joy to confess,
when a wonderful baby daughter was born,
their very own princess.

Time seems to stand still,
 then goes very fast
and memories make their impression.
Who could have imagined
the angel-faced bundle
would teach us all a neat lesson?

That the math and the science and language arts, too
were not about the grades.
Just tools to express that love is the answer
even when time starts to fade.

There was a boy and a girl long ago,
once upon a time.
Though it took him a while the king made his way
and so concludes my rhyme.

For twenty nine years and for twenty nine more
two hearts devoted grow.

And no one is more thankful than that bashful boy
for his beautiful love,
angel from above,
his love that came true, now I’m telling you,
this world is better because they’re together,
let me just make this clear:
There’s something magic about this year.
