Mardi Gras

by Lawrence J. J. Leonard

Dancing
dreaming and scheming
believing the screaming
is for enhancing

Lancing
teaming and seeming
breathing the gleaming
of your advancing

Chancing
redeeming mainstreaming
perceiving your leaving
alternate glancing

So many beads
too many heads

Rows of beds
no one heeds

King cake and music
Parades so rustic

Gala or rave
we laugh at the grave.

Mardi Gras

Happy Mardi Gras! Ashes tomorrow . . .
