We are so young, influenced by pop culture.
I thought I heard him for the first time
on the radio.
He talked of freedom.
My friends called him cute.
Although I did not see what they saw (in the man),
they liked the way he moved his lips,
they way he winked,
the way he danced by the band.
I thought they meant he was strong.
He filled my world with awe.
We all got pictures of this dream boat
who we thought would be THE groom.
And I said my dream was to grow up where he grew up as a kid.
So my girlfriends said they would
like to marry him some day.
And I thought I could, too,
when I got older.
I grew up that day.
I wanted to be older.
It wasn’t until I opened my eyes
that I wanted to be young again and hear his voice on the radio.
